Why Tom Holland Says Zendaya Had "a Lot to Put Up With" Amid His Latest Career Venture

Tom Holland admits his hair transformation for The Crowded Room wasn't all that groovy.
The 27-year-old opened up about bringing his ‘70s look from the Apple TV+ series into his personal life. And luckily he says girlfriend Zendaya was a good sport about his temporary new look.
"Obviously I had that crazy hairstyle," Tom told RadioTimes.com in an interview published June 2. "I had the bangs. Bless Zendaya, she had a lot to put up with, with me looking like that for 10 months, it was rough."
The hairstyle in question was dark brown and featured long, scraggly-looking curls in addition to the infamous bangs.
"I don't like my hair being that dark," the Spider-Man: No Way Home actor continued. "I really like how my hair is like my mum's, kind of red. Yeah, it was tough. That was a part of the show that I don't miss for sure."
But Tom's work on The Crowded Room—which he also served as a producer on—did prove to be an educational experience for him, as he's noted how it affected him.
"In my career, I've always felt like I've been very good at leaving work at work, and for the first time with The Crowded Room it really did start bleeding into my personal life," he explained to RadioTimes. "I would come home from work and I would see myself in the mirror and I would see him. So it did take a while to figure out how to put him to bed and wake Tom up and get on with my life and be myself."
Despite striking that balance, working on the drama—which follows the aftermath of Tom's character Danny getting arrested after a shooting in New York City in 1979—took such a toll that Tom is taking a year-long break from acting.
"It was a tough time, for sure," Tom told Extra in an interview published June 6. "We were exploring certain emotions that I have definitely never experienced before. And then on top of that, being a producer, dealing with the day-to-day problems that come with any film set, just added that extra level of pressure."
He added, "I'm now taking a year off, and that is a result of how difficult this show was."
But while he did ultimately enjoy filming the anthology series, it allowed him to see he was ready for a break.
"I'm no stranger to hard work," he continued. "I've always lived by this idea that hard work is good work. And I really enjoyed it. But then again, the show did break me. There did come a time where sort of was like, 'I need to have a break.'"
